 Father Ephrem Carr, O.S.B., a Benedictine monk of St. Meinrad Archabbey in Indiana, and a long-time member of the faculty at Sant’ Anselmo, was elected President of the Pontifical Liturgical Institute on November 13, 2008. Following approval by Abbot Primate Notker Wolf, O.S.B., Father Ephrem began his four-year term of office in December. The Pontifical Liturgical Institute was established in 1961 by Blessed Pope John XXIII in order to deepen and strengthen the historical and theological study of the Church’s liturgy, which is the heart of its prayer life. On May 24, 2007 Monsignor Crispino Valenziano, a priest of the Diocese of Cefalù in Sicily, was awarded the degree of Doctor of Sacred Liturgy Honoris Causa during a ceremony held in his honor at Sant’ Anselmo in Rome. A native of Cefalù, Msgr. Valenziano began his seminary studies there before being sent to Rome for further training. He completed his doctorate in Philosophy at the Pontifical Gregorian University and subsequently began a long and distinguished period of service to the Church as a teacher and scholar. Read More

He noted that modern civilization needs to discover a proper sense of the values of time, authority and participation if it is to renew its sense of purpose and enable communities to cope with modern pressures. Sant' Anselmo hosted the Congress of Abbots September 18-27, 2008. The congress, held every four years, gathers the abbots of all Benedictine monasteries, the abbot presidents of all Benedictine congregations, and the priors of dependent houses.
